Spanish 4 is designed for students who have developed a solid foundation in the language and are ready to deepen their proficiency and cultural understanding. This course emphasizes greater accuracy, fluency, and sophistication in all four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—through meaningful, content-based communication.

Students explore authentic materials such as short stories, poems, news articles, films, and podcasts from across the Spanish-speaking world. Class discussions and written assignments focus on interpreting and analyzing cultural and social themes while encouraging students to express their opinions, support arguments, and make cultural comparisons.

Grammar study becomes more nuanced and contextual, helping students refine their use of complex verb tenses and structures in real-world communication. Oral proficiency is developed through debates, presentations, and conversations that promote spontaneity and precision.

By the end of Spanish 4, students are able to communicate effectively and confidently on a wide range of topics, demonstrating an increased ability to think critically and empathetically about the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. The course serves as a bridge to Spanish 5, AP Spanish Language and Culture, or other advanced studies in the language.
