The Spanish 1–3 sequence has been designed to reflect the philosophy and goals outlined in both the National Standards for Language Learning and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century. Across these three levels, the courses aim to develop, reinforce, and refine students’ proficiency in the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Through an inductive and communicative approach, students build a solid foundation in the Spanish language and culture while developing confidence as speakers and global citizens. Instruction focuses on meaningful communication and practical language use in real-life contexts rather than rote memorization.
Spanish 1 introduces students to basic vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Students learn to exchange simple information, describe themselves and their surroundings, and engage in short, guided conversations.
Spanish 2 builds on this foundation by expanding students’ ability to express themselves more accurately and fluently in the present, past, and future tenses. Students begin to explore more complex structures and engage in extended dialogues, readings, and short written compositions.
Spanish 3 refines students’ command of the language through authentic materials, literature, and cultural analysis. Students learn to express opinions, narrate experiences, and participate in spontaneous conversations with increased depth and precision.
