Student Support

At Maybeck, the strength of our community depends on the wellness of every community member. Our Student Support team, Dean of Students, Director of Counseling and Student Life, Director of Learning Support, and Director of Equity and Inclusion work together and with our teaching faculty to provide guidance, coaching, and support as students navigate their time at Maybeck.

Academic Advising

We ensure that students explore a wide array of academic subjects while also building on strengths, knowledge, and skills from year to year. The basis for each student’s academic program is a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, coupled with opportunities to challenge themselves to go deeper with numerous advanced electives in each subject area. For students who discover new interests and passions along the way, we offer the flexibility to accelerate and augment their studies both within and beyond Maybeck. The Dean of Students and College Counselor work together to craft an engaging and challenging academic program for each student. Our goal is for students leave Maybeck with a self-reflective and inquiry-driven approach to their own intellectual pursuits, well-equipped for the experience of navigating academic programs in college and beyond.

Learning Support

Our goal is to support all forms of diversity, including the various learning needs of our students. Our teachers go the distance by offering additional support during office hours, and we meet weekly to celebrate student successes and troubleshoot when students need additional support. While we strive to ensure that all learners can participate meaningfully in our academic program, we have expanded support for students with learning differences to ensure that they have a fair and reasonable opportunity to succeed and find joy in learning. Our Director of Learning Support offers individualized support in executive functioning, self-advocacy, and strategies for effective studying, test-taking, and learning.

Counseling and Wellness

We have a professionally trained and licensed counselor available to students and families to provide counseling on a short-term basis. This resource is designed to support students' social-emotional well-being and bolster their educational experience at Maybeck. Counseling services may include: individual counseling, small-group counseling, conflict mediation, crisis assessment, classroom presentations, and support for families regarding community resources.

Our counselor supports families with referrals to providers in the community when necessary, and collaborates with external providers to ensure the well-being of students. All students can speak with the counselor at their own request, or may be referred by a parent, guardian, or Maybeck staff.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

By incorporating a DEI lens in our approach to student support, we are able to support all students in ways that recognize their full identities and lived experiences. Working closely with the Student Support team and teaching faculty, the Director of Equity and Inclusion helps ensure that our practices, classroom environments, and community norms reflect our commitments to equity, inclusion, and belonging. This perspective allows us to respond to student needs with cultural awareness and anticipate and remove barriers to success. Through this collaboration, we are better able to create spaces where every student feels respected, supported, and able to participate fully in the Maybeck school experience.
