Community

Learning happens way beyond the classroom.

Strong connections to the larger community and to each other set the Maybeck experience apart. Shared experiences, real-world engagement, and extracurricular opportunities all exemplify the Maybeck experience.

With a wide range of experiential learning programs, committees, outdoor pursuits, retreats, cultural events, sports, clubs, and more to join in on, there are enrichment activities for everyone. Here, you can pursue almost any interest you choose.

Retreats

Maybeck’s All-School Fall and Spring Retreats allows us to begin school in a way that embodies the values of a Maybeck education. Even before classes have begun, students form meaningful relationships with their peers and their teachers. In workshops and all-school activities centered on a contemporary theme, students see the nuance and complexities of real-world challenges and consider what they personally hold as core values. By supporting each other in “Council” circles, all-school discussions, the performance showcase, and informal activities, they practice the empathy and collaboration skills that help students find a deep sense of belonging here at Maybeck. In this moment of tremendous uncertainty, the tradition of beginning school on a mountain retreat centers the importance of slowing down and being together.

Maybeck Beyond

At Maybeck, students, staff, and families come together on the weekends and evenings for events ranging from hiking and camping, to symphony performances, cultural outings, beach clean-ups, and roller skating. We recognize that building strong relationships outside of school helps further learning within our classrooms.

Student Leadership

From clubs and affinity groups to our peer-mentoring and tutoring programs, Maybeck students collaborate with each other to create spaces where they can pursue their passions, share their experiences, and support their peers. While some clubs like the Student Activities Club, Yearbook, and the Climate Club continue year after year, Maybeck’s club offerings change as students come together around shared interests. Students serve on committees alongside staff, practicing skills of restorative justice, collaborative decision-making, and careful consideration of policy and practice. In all of these spaces, Maybeck students develop the real-world skills that prepare them to enter college and their futures with purpose and conviction, prepared to navigate challenges, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and pursue their goals with both competence and character.
