BJ serves as Maybeck High School’s Director of Learning Support, supporting students, families, and faculty in helping diverse learners thrive. With more than a decade in education, he brings a background in teaching, educational therapy, and learning support, with a particular focus on learning differences and executive functioning.

BJ’s own unconventional educational journey strongly shapes his approach. After leaving high school before graduating, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a Master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, along with multiple California teaching credentials. He is also an Educational Therapist Practitioner (ET/P) through the Association of Educational Therapists and is currently pursuing a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential through ACSA.

A lifelong Berkeley resident, BJ attended Emerson Elementary and King Middle School before eventually returning to the Bay Area as an educator. He loves being part of a school community like Maybeck that values individuality, strong relationships, and helping students discover how they learn best.

Outside of Maybeck, BJ enjoys lifting at the gym, kayaking, solving escape rooms, and exploring the Bay Area’s food scene. He lives in Oakland with his family.
