BJ is thrilled to join Maybeck High School as the new Director of Learning Support! A lifelong Berkeley resident, his roots run deep: having attended Emerson Elementary just up the road, King Middle School, and eventually earning his Bachelor's degree in African History from UC Berkeley. This community, and Maybeck's vibrant spirit, feel like a natural fit for him.
With over a decade in education, BJ's passion for supporting diverse learners stems from his own alternative path. Despite not finishing High School, he went on to earn a Master's Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as multiple teaching credentials. As a trained educational therapist, he excels at developing tailored strategies, fostering an environment where students with learning differences truly thrive. BJ is dedicated to collaborating with students, families, and teachers to help every individual unlock their fullest potential.
When not at Maybeck, BJ enjoys staying active at the gym, kayaking, solving escape rooms, and exploring the Bay Area's food scene. He currently lives in Oakland.
