After School Director-Producer for Maybeck Fall Play, Fall 2025

Are you passionate about theatre and working with young actors? Maybeck High School is seeking an After-School Director-Producer to develop and lead our new After-School Fall Theatre Production program. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and guide a group of students grades 9-12 in creating a meaningful and fun theatrical production. 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for oversight of all aspects of directing and producing the Maybeck Fall Play:

  • Select an engaging play for the Fall Theatre Production. (Recent past plays have included: She Kills Monsters; Marian, The True Tale of Robin Hood; Arsenic and Old Lace.

  • Develop an audition and rehearsal schedule that ensures adequate time for preparation. Lead auditions, casting actors for the various roles in the play, and assigning understudies as needed. 

  • Direct and guide the cast in their character development, blocking, and overall performance, fostering a creative and inclusive atmosphere.

  • Conduct regular rehearsals to ensure that actors are prepared, lines are memorized, and blocking is executed effectively. Provide constructive feedback and support to individual actors, helping them improve their performances and develop their skills. 

  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages teamwork, respect, and creativity among the cast and crew. 

  • Advertise the dates of the play, and coordinate online ticket sales.

  • Organize and oversee dress rehearsals and performances, ensuring smooth transitions and a high-quality production. 

  • Coordinate parent volunteers to support production.

  • Design and coordinate costumes, sets, and lighting in collaboration with students and parents.

Qualifications: Previous experience in directing/producing theatre. Experience working with high school-age students is strongly preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, and parents. Ability to establish clear and healthy boundaries with teens. Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate changing circumstances and student needs. Familiarity with script analysis, character development, and blocking techniques. Knowledge of technical aspects of theatre, including lighting, sound, and set design, is a plus. Ability to create a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
