Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

At Maybeck, we strive for a space for uncompromised expression of identity, in which all voices and identities are recognized and individuals are honored as they are. Throughout each school year, we are committed to:

  • Celebrating the racial, cultural, gender, sexual, and religious diversity of our school

  • Creating a welcoming community that is mindful, fair, diverse, and honest

  • Promoting respect and empathy for each other as we engage across lines of difference

In service of the above commitments, we:

  • Openly engage in dialogue and inquiry to understand and challenge systemic inequality along lines of race, class, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ability, and other forms of identity

  • Provide space, time, and resources for students to gather in affinity groups, for adults to participate in ongoing professional development, and for families to cultivate connections and build community

  • Continually revise and refine our curriculum, pedagogy, and practices through an anti-bias lens 

  • Center healthy relationships and restorative conversations as part of our approach to resolving conflict, creating a space in which we seek to understand each other with vulnerability, empathy, respect, and a willingness to grow

This work is never finished, and we regularly engage in community dialogue to ensure that all aspects of our work are aligned with our mission.
