International Students

We welcome international students to apply to Maybeck High School. Over the years, we have had students from all over the world enrich the cultural diversity of our school from places such as Albania, Canada, Chile, China, Germany, Israel, Italy, Korea, Norway, Senegal, Spain, Turkmenistan, and Vietnam.

Students from China who are interested in applying to Maybeck should contact The Cambridge Institute at http://www.thecambridgeinstitute.org.

IMPORTANT: ENGLISH REQUIREMENT

This is the number-one most important factor in deciding whether or not to accept an international student to Maybeck High School. Maybeck DOES NOT have an ESL program (English as a Second Language). Therefore, the student must read, write, and speak very good English in order to fully communicate with Maybeck teachers. We require a 61 minimum TOEFL test score. This test measures your ability to use and understand the English language as it’s read, written, heard and spoken in the classroom. We require a 58 minimum SLEP test score (Secondary Level English Proficiency Test); however, this test is not as helpful for us because it only measures non-native English speakers' listening and reading comprehension abilities.

ROOM & BOARD (STUDENT HOUSING: ACCOMODATIONS | FOOD & MEALS)

Maybeck is not a boarding school. Generally, we have had good success at finding host families within are extended Maybeck community who will offer to host an international student for one or more semesters; however, we cannot guarantee this service. Host families generally charge from $800 to $1,200 per month to cover the cost of room and board. There are agencies that charge a fee and specialize in finding host families for students, such as International Student Placements: http://isphomestays.com.

STUDENT PLACEMENT AGENCIES AND/OR INDIVIDUAL AGENTS

Although we work with a variety of international student placement agencies and individual consultants, we do not pay any commission or referral fees for students.
