BA Comparative Literature, Columbia University

Jane earned her BA in Comparative Literature from Columbia University in 2001. She continued her study of literature at UC Berkeley, where she earned an MA in Russian Literature in 2003. While a graduate student at UC Berkeley, Jane taught a Reading and Composition course to undergraduate students. Jane started teaching at Maybeck in 2005. She has taught Composition and Literature courses.

At Maybeck, Jane particularly likes working with students on the Literature Paper (a 12-15 page research paper in which students compare two novels of their choice), going to local theaters with students, and participating in and leading camping trip activities. In the summers, Jane attends the Bread Loaf School of English, a five-summer-long MA program in English Literature at Middlebury College in Vermont. At Bread Loaf, where most students are high school English teachers, Jane enjoys taking graduate courses in literature as well as exchanging ideas about teaching literature with other high school teachers. In her spare time, Jane likes doing arts and crafts projects and exploring Bay Area parks with her husband and her daughter, born in 2004.
