Sue's history with Maybeck goes back to the beginning. In the early 70s she was in Stan Cardinet's Ancient History class at Saint Elizabeth High School in Oakland. She joined the Maybeck staff in 1977 for one semester, then took a semester off and went on a six-month bus trip from Mexico, through Central, and South America, as far as Peru.
Sue has taught Drawing, Painting, Figure Drawing, Methods and Materials, Murals, Bay Area Cultures, Sewing, Spanish, and numerous traveling programs to Baja, mainland Mexico, the Southwest, and Spain. For many years she held down the fort in the office.
Aside from teaching art at Maybeck, Sue is also an exhibiting artist and a percussionist. Her musical studies have taken her many times to Cuba, where she studied popular and folkloric music and dance at La Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana. She has taught many percussion workshops on the camping trips. Her newest paintings are about a recent trip to a small village in Niger, West Africa.
