In 1993, Sarah Kayler earned her B.A. from UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology. She went on to earn her California Teaching Credential in Physical and Life Science from CSU Hayward in 1995. Sarah began teaching at Maybeck in 2002, and has taught Chemistry, Advanced Placement Physics, Health, Yoga, and Algebra I. She is also the Student Activities Committee Advisor. In this capacity, she has helped the students on SAC organize Beach Day, on which the whole school spent the day at Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands; a Halloween scavenger hunt, on which the school, in teams and wearing costumes, searched several square blocks around Maybeck; and Disaster Day, on which students saw footage of the 1989 quake, practiced first aid, had a radioactive disco, and played an escape-the-lava game.
She co-leads the bicycle trips and the Full Moon camping trips with Dave and John. Her special programs have included Juggling and Circus Arts, Fear (which included trust falls, spelunking, and horseback riding), and travel to Guatemala.
She has two daughters, born in 1998 and 2000. When not teaching, Sarah enjoys juggling, camping, beading, and crocheting. She believes in protecting the environment and working toward creating a sustainable culture. Her house has 44 solar panels and her family drives a Prius. |
