Arts

In Maybeck High School’s Visual and Performing Arts program, we recognize every student's ability to create meaningful work and strive to provide every student with opportunities to explore artistic creation in visual art, music, theater and film from a personal, cultural, and historical perspective. It is this commitment that enables the program to thrive.

To quote from the University of California, Berkeley Department of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies mission statement “we take pride in our daily commitment to collaboration and to the kind of rigorously critical, team-based projects we develop with our students [and] staff…both in the classroom and in our production season.” With that in mind, Visual Arts Instructor Sue Matthews and Performing Arts Instructor Eric de Lora challenge every student to not only do, but to articulate the influences and motivations behind the doing.

We encourage our students to take advantage of local and regional opportunities in art, music, theatre and film through fieldtrips, workshops, attending performances, and taking coursework with established programs.
