Maybeck Performing Arts Season 2011-2012: Theatre & Film

There is a strong dramatic tradition at Maybeck. Throughout the year students perform and assist in producing the Fall Play (generally an evening of student-directed One-Act plays), the Winter Play (usually a student-directed full-length comedy or drama), and the Spring Play (either a production of a classical play (Shakespeare, Moliere) or a musical). Drama productions take place on-campus utilizing the various spaces at St. John’s Presbyterian Church—the Sanctuary, Hunter Hall, the Fireside or the Campbell Room, and/or the outdoor courtyard. Besides directing and producing the plays and films, students may also design sets and costumes or provide the technical support for the productions. Any student who is interested in performance, production or creation of an original play should speak with the performing arts instructor, who can offer support and explain the school guidelines.

In the spring semester, each student in the Film Studies class writes and produces a short film that is presented at the annual Film & Arts Night (Maybeck’s own film festival!) which is sponsored by the Maybeck Parents’ Association. Other students interested in film make also submit an original film to be shown as well. Any student who is interested in creation of an original film should speak with the performing arts instructor, who can offer support and explain the school guidelines.
